What is a Vickers indenter and what it is used for?

 A: The Vickers indenter is a diamond ground to the shape of a square based
  pyramid with an angle of 136 degrees between faces. The depth of the indent it
  makes is about 1/7 of its diagonal length. The Vickers indenter penetrates
  about twice as far into the specimen as the Knoop indenter...
